The NSW Government will provide funding to ensure the accessibility and health of two key Central Coast waterways, Minister for Natural Resources Lands and Water Kevin Humphries and Member for Gosford Chris Holstein announced today.
Mr Humphries said the NSW Government will commit up to $90,000 to undertake pre-dredging feasibility studies and work to improve navigational access for future environmental and tourism outcomes at Correa Bay and Ourimbah Creek.
“ Waterways are the lifeblood of many Central Coast communities, ” Mr Humphries said.
“The NSW Liberals & Nationals are committed to restoring navigation and the health of key waterways across the State by funding key dredging projects that will in turn support local economies and tourism industries.”
Mr Holstein said the NSW Government has committed $67,500 and $22,500 towards dredging to improve boating access at Ourimbah Creek and Correa Bay.
“ This funding will allow Wyong and Gosford councils to undertake pre-dredging feasibility studies,” Mr Holstein said.
“These waterways are so important to communities throughout the Central Coast and I am extremely pleased to be able to deliver funding for vital work that was long neglected by the former Labor government, ” he said.
Gosford City Council CEO Paul Anderson said the community has been asking for a strategy for these local waterways for some time.
“ I would like to thank Minister Kevin Humphries and our local member Chris Holstein for coming through with this funding, which will help us make the right decisions about the future of this important natural resource, ” Mr Anderson said.
The NSW Government will provide up to 50 per cent towards the projects’ $180,000 cost under “the Rescuing our Waterways Program”, with the local council managing the project and providing the remaining funds or in partnership with local stakeholders.
