China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) today held a groundbreaking ceremony in Ashod marking the beginning of construction of Israel’s new port project.

The ceremony was officiated by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other State dignitaries. Speaking at the ceremony in southern Ashdod , Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu had some prime comments to share.

“ We will continue to develop seaports in order to lower the costs of goods. We will continue to pave highways and build railroads in order to join the Negev and the Galilee to the center of the country ,” he said.

This new port, worth approx $930 million, will be built about 1km north of the current Ashdod Port by one of the CHEC’s subsidiaries.

According to the officials, the construction of the port will last about seven years.
