The contractor, Fisher Sand and Gravel, commenced construction on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 to complete the elevation of the East Bank back levee from Braithwaite to Scarsdale to 12.5 feet.

This 6 mile section of levee on the upper end of the East Bank from Braithwaite to Scarsdale is currently elevated to 8.5 feet. The side slope failure has also been completely repaired.

The section of the levee from Belair to White Ditch has also been awarded to the contractor, Fisher Sand and Gravel. This lower 3 mile section of the levee will be raised from 8.5 feet to 12.5 feet and construction started Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

“ Work is being done extensively to have these levees constructed as quickly as possible, but also to have them done in a top quality manner, ” said Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser . “ We are pleased to announce that this levee will be ready to withstand a new hurricane season. By focusing on the levee in sections we are doing as much work as possible at one time, while remaining vigilant and safe.”

Plaquemines Parish Government is working diligently to continue to move this project forward and to continue to keep the East Bank levee work moving forward.
