A consignment of 1,700 tonnes of rock has been delivered by barge to Pagham Beach.

Arun District Council has started work to shore up the revetment, position rock and recharge the beach at Pagham Harbor.

Over the past few weeks, engineers from Arun District Council have been working with contractors Earlcoate to shift shingle in order to keep residents’ homes safe after more beach was lost to the severe high tides.

After the timely delivery last Saturday (Oct 25) work is now in full swing to get the rocks into place to bolster and adapt the existing rock revetment.

On Wednesday 29 October, Leader of Arun District Council Mrs Gillian Brown, Councillor Terence Chapman and Principal Arun Engineer Roger Spencer traveled to London to meet Elizabeth Truss the Secretary of State to seek funding for a long-term solution to the ongoing erosion at Pagham.

Councillor Terence Chapman, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services at Arun District Council , said: “ The safety of residents living in these threatened houses has always been of great importance to us as has the loss of habitat in this site of special scientific interest. Arun District Council is working with the community to find a solution to the situation at Pagham .”
