The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is extending public comment on a cleanup plan proposed for the Cornell-Dubilier site in South Plainfield, NJ from the original deadline of November 14, 2014 to December 15, 2014.
On September 30, 2014, the EPA proposed a plan to clean up a nine mile stretch of Bound Brook as the final phase of the cleanup of the Cornell-Dubilier Electronics Superfund site in South Plainfield, New Jersey.
The proposed plan includes dredging PCB-contaminated sediment, excavating soil from the flood plains, excavating an area next to the former Cornell-Dubilier facility where PCB-containing capacitors were buried, relocating a 36-inch waterline that crosses the former facility, and capturing contaminated groundwater that discharges into the Bound Brook.
The EPA is now taking public comments on the proposed plan until December 15, 2014. People may submit written comments by mail or email. The EPA held a public meeting in South Plainfield on October 21, 2014 to explain the proposed plan.
