A program to manage 1,400 linear feet of shoreline within the city of Sedro-Woolley is open for comment through the Washington Department of Ecology.
The locally tailored shoreline program is designed to protect the shoreline environment, reserve appropriate areas for water-oriented uses, and protect people’s access to public land and waters.
The proposed updated shoreline master program will guide construction and development along the Skagit River and associated wetlands. Most of Sedro-Woolley’s shoreline is along a city park. The proposed update protects existing residential and park use.
Under Washington’s 1972 voter-approved Shoreline Management Act, Ecology must review and approve Sedro-Woolley’s proposed shoreline program before it takes effect. More than 150 cities and counties statewide are in the process of, or soon will be, updating or crafting their shoreline programs.
