Congressman Ander Crenshaw yesterday pointed to JAXPORT and Northeast Florida military bases as two areas to receive a boost under the Fiscal Year 2015 Omnibus Appropriations Bill.

Crenshaw, Chairman of the House Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Subcommittee, will support the legislation to fund federal government operations through the remainder of this fiscal year when the bill comes to the House floor. He issued the following statement yesterday:

“ The $3.15 million in the Omnibus to complete the Preconstruction, Engineering, and Design Phase (PED) of the St. Johns River dredging puts JAXPORT in the strongest position ever to begin construction. That’s a ‘win-win’ for economic growth and job creation and an achievement that would not be possible without passage of this legislation.

“On the road ahead, JAXPORT must be designated as a ‘New Start Construction Project’ to be eligible for continued federal funding in the Fiscal Year 2016 budget. The Omnibus does provide new guidance on ‘New Start’ criteria – criteria that I fought for – and I am optimistic that this guidance will put the Jacksonville harbor deepening project in the best position to move ahead.

“This is an investment of national importance, provides important economic gains for Florida and the nation, and I will be continuing my discussions with the Office of Management and Budget and the Administration to bring the project to full life.”
