The California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is currently accepting grant applications for beach erosion control projects and beach restoration projects.
The deadline to submit applications for the fiscal year 2016/17 is Monday February 2, 2015.
Beach erosion and restoration grants assist local government agencies by providing funding for projects that stop or reverse the impact of erosion on California’s shoreline.
Generally, agencies use erosion control grants to build structures that protect developed shoreline areas against wave erosion, and they use restoration grants to strategically place sand on eroded beaches.
Sections 65 through 67.3 of the Harbors and Navigation Code authorize DBW to do the following: study erosion problems; act as shore protection advisor to all agencies of government; and plan, design and construct protective works when funds are provided by the Legislature. The Rivers and Harbors Act of 1962, as amended, allows DBW to participate in beach erosion control projects undertaken by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
To apply for a grant, applicants must submit a letter to DBW requesting funding for a specific phase of the project (study, planning, feasibility, design, or construction) along with a resolution from their governing body authorizing the application for grant funding.
The letter should describe the problem, proposed solution, the scope and cost of the proposed solution, funding partners, consequences if the problem is not addressed, and project history. The grants are open to federal, state, and local government agencies.
