The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) plans to purchase a $36 million dredging vessel, according to Minivan News.
MTCC CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq stated that this piece of equipment will be a hopper suction dredger, which will be capable of reclaiming one hectare of new land in just two days.
“ This is an investment to ease the land reclamation projects done in the Maldives ,” said Abdul Razzaq. “ We are currently talking with Holland’s IHC Company regarding the purchase, the dredger will be designed to be suitable for Maldives.”
