Around 100 homes and 45 businesses in Beaumaris are set to benefit from a £1.2 million coastal flood defense scheme, the Minister for Natural Resources, Carl Sargeant announced yesterday.

The coastal works will include a new 250m concrete core and upgrades to over 660m of existing walls.

The Welsh Government will provide £568,758 of the funding, with the European Regional Development Fund (£551,167) and the Isle of Anglesey County Council (£95,075) completing the funding.

“ This funding again demonstrates our clear commitment to protecting Wales’ coastal communities from the risks of flooding and coastal erosion. This term of Government will see over £245 million of Welsh Government investment in flood and coastal erosion risk management, supported by an additional £50 million from Europe and this funding for Beaumaris is an excellent example of the important work being done ,” said Sargeant.

The Shoreline Management Plan for the North Wales coast outlines that holding the current line of defense is the best means of managing the risk of flooding in this location long term.
