The Head of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Memish, few days ago, visited the New Suez Canal to inspect progress being made on the project.

He informed crews working on the project that so far approx. 10 kilometers of the New Canal have been dredged up. At the moment, depth of the new waterway ranges between 9 to 24 meters.

New Suez Canal dredging project, one of the largest in recent history, is estimated to be worth over $2 billion.

The project includes digging of 35km of a new waterway parallel to the existing one to a depth of 24m and width of 317m, so that the new Canal can accommodate vessels with up to 66 ft. draught.

Official estimates show that over 250 million cubic meters of sediment will be removed during the works.
