Moffatt & Nichol, an infrastructure advisor specializing in the planning and design of facilities that shape the coastlines, harbors and rivers, has named a new Coasts, Water and the Environment Practice Leader and new supporting leadership roles.

The firm elected Senior Coastal Engineer Jeffrey G. Shelden, PE, to serve as overall Practice Leader. Mr. Shelden has been employed with Moffatt & Nichol for almost 30 years. He has worked on hundreds of projects related to coastal erosion and sediment transport; coastal, estuarine and riverine hydrodynamics; wave hindcasting and transformation; coastal structure design; bridge hydraulics; dredging; urban waterfronts and marinas; ports and harbors; and mooring and berthing analyses.

He regularly serves as project manager for open-end contracts involving multi-disciplined, multi-firm consultant teams and is currently serving as the project manager for the Moffatt & Nichol team in the Changing Course Lower Mississippi River Delta Design Competition.

Moffatt & Nichol has also created three new discipline leadership roles to support all of Moffatt & Nichol’s practices.

Senior Coastal Engineer Gillian Millar, CEng will serve as the Coastal Discipline Lead. She has more than 15 years of extensive coastal and ports project management and design experience, including oil and gas projects, bulk terminals, varied harbor protection, breakwater and waterfront schemes across the globe.

Senior Water Resources Engineer Johnny Martin, PE was appointed to serve as the Water Resources Discipline Lead. He has more than 20 years of experience in water resources planning and engineering including hydrologic/hydraulic studies and designs, watershed restoration, flood control/drainage, stormwater management, water supply, pump stations, floodplain management, shoreline protection, water quality and stream/wetland restoration.

His recent focus has been to assist communities in the design and retrofit of existing backland infrastructure to increase resiliency to coastal flooding.

Finally, Senior Environmental Scientist Jerry McCrain, PhD will serve as the Environmental Lead. Dr. McCrain has 40 years of experience in the environmental field, including 25 years of progressive consulting experience.

“ We created these discipline leader positions because of our growth in these areas of service, ” said Moffatt & Nichol President Eric Nichol . “ Adding a layer of experienced leadership to ensure consistent quality and technical advancements will only enhance the level of expertise and client focused service we’ve always been known for .”

The Practice and Discipline Leaders are corporate positions responsible for keeping pace with industry trends and staying abreast of innovations, efficiencies and emerging issues.
