The Environment Agency, Exeter City Council and Devon County Council are working together to improve flood defenses and reduce flood risk to Exeter by 2018.

A £30 million scheme that is being constructed in two phases will reduce flood risk to approximately 3,000 homes and businesses throughout the city.

The Agency submitted a planning application to Exeter City Council on Friday 13 February 2015 for the next phase of the Exeter flood defense scheme.

Phase 2 of the scheme includes intermittent defenses on both sides of the River Exe, from Cowley Bridge in the north to Countess Wear, Bridge Road in the south. The scheme will reduce flood risk in Exwick, St David’s, St Thomas, the quay area, Marsh Barton and low lying areas near Mill Road, Countess Wear.

If the scheme receives planning permission, the Environment Agency plans to start 2nd phase early in 2016, with completion of the works scheduled for March 2018.
