Fairfield’s Flood & Erosion Control Board (FECB) will hold a series of Public Meetings during March to discuss the Fairfield Coastal Flood Mitigation Plan that was presented to the Board of Selectmen on January 8, 2015.

The goal of the plan is to mitigate flooding in the beach area from the 100 year storm. The plan calls for elevation of existing dikes within the area as well as installing new dikes and a flood wall in order to create a physical barrier capable of protecting against a 1% chance return storm. The town estimated that the project would cost approximately $27 million.

There will be three public meetings – March 3rd, 10th and 24th. All meetings will be held at Sherman School beginning at 7PM. The meetings will cover the basics of how Fairfield floods and the overall plan.

Each meeting will then focus on a different portion of the overall plan:

The intent of the meetings is to answer questions the public may have and, importantly, to solicit feedback, opinions and suggestions on how to make the plan better.
