The second phase of the Hulhumale Dredging & Reclamation project in the Maldives, undertaken by DEME’s Dredging International, is nearing its completion.

According to Deputy Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Mohamed Simon , the work on reclaiming 226.95 hectares of land is about to be completed within this month.

“ Work is ongoing without interruption. About 84 percent has been reclaimed now. We are estimating that the land reclamation work will be done by March 20 ,” said Simon.

This newly reclaimed land will be connected with populated areas of Hulhumale via four bridges, announced Haveeru Online.

Under the Phase I, 188 hectares of land was reclaimed and designed to accommodate a population of 60,000 people, while the newly reclaimed land is designed to accommodate a population of 100,000.
