Vice Admiral Ayman Saleh Ibrahim, Chairman of Damietta Port Authority (DPA), today signed a contract for establishing a new 630 meters long, 17 meters deep berth in Damietta Port (DP) with an adjacent handling yard totaling 75000 square meters.
The signing, which took place in The Arab Academy for Sciences, Technology And Maritime transport, was attended by a panel of key maritime transport sector officials, academy figures, Engineering professors and shipping agencies.
Noteworthy that such an event falls within the Transport Ministry’s ambitious plan to upgrade ports of Egypt in a record time. Last October, Prime Minister Mahlab inaugurated two new berths in DP.
This new addition to DP infrastructure capabilities marks strenuous efforts by the Ministry to bring about an elastic and real scheme aiming to uplift rates of executing DP current and investment projects in preparation to the forthcoming Sharm Economic Conference.
“ This project will allow ships with unprecedented dimensions and volumes to enter DP. It also coincides with a really big ongoing dredging operation of the Access Channel carried out by world’s premier dredging company to reach 16,5 meters draft ,” Saleh pointed out.
DPA has therefore contracted for the supply of further up to 60 tons tugging capacity tugboats. One of them has already arrived and crews are receiving necessary training to use it.
