General Electric is working aggressively to refine plans for the sixth and final season of dredging, which will be performed later this year from May through November.

When dredging is completed this year, GE will have removed 100 percent of the PCBs targeted by EPA for removal — more than 2.65 million cubic yards of sediment from a 40-mile stretch of river between Fort Edward and Troy, N.Y.

The dredging project is now about 90 percent complete and habitat planting and reconstruction will continue in 2016.

Last year, good weather and low river flows allowed GE’s contractors to remove approximately 583,000 cubic yards of sediment, exceeding the 350,000-cubic-yard goal established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Crews performed dredging activities around-the-clock from May 7 through November 4 in an area between Schuylerville and Troy, N.Y.
