Construction activities continue on Phase 1 of the $30.9 million Muddy River Flood Risk Management and Environmental Restoration project in Boston, Massachusetts.
On Saturday, March 21, Jug Handle roadway will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic in order to install the piping beneath the roadway for the river diversion work. Vehicular traffic will be detoured to Avenue Louis Pasteur for those who want to be traveling on Park Drive.
“These activities are necessary in order to install the piping for the Muddy River diversion work which will allow our contractor to excavate and dispose of sediment of the Upper Fens Pond to construct the flood control channel; restore and protect the banks of the Upper Fens Pond; and daylight the river in the area near Avenue Louis Pasteur ,” the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said.
Advanced signage will be in place for the detour. In order to avoid impact to vehicular and pedestrian traffic flow during a weekday, this detour is being implemented on a weekend when traffic is lighter.
The expected duration of the detour is 1 day (Saturday, March 21) with the potential for a second day (Sunday, March 22) as required to finish up the work before the roadway can be opened up to permanent traffic.
