Construction works are progressing well on a £36 million coastal protection scheme that will recharge 5km of beaches from Holland-on-Sea to Clacton.

The first section of the work between Holland Haven to Fernwood Avenue was recently completed, with the beaches being opened back up to the public.

The second phase will involve a further 15 fishtail groynes being built and the beaches between them being recharged. Phase two of the project began in early May just below Cliff Road where the first one was completed.

At the moment, trailing suction hopper dredger Sospan Dau is blowing the sand across the location.

The project, being undertaken by VBA Joint Venture Limited and managed by Mott MacDonald, should be completed by the end of this year.
