Residents and business owners have ultimate peace of mind from flooding thanks to the opening of a £37 million scheme designed by Royal HaskoningDHV.
The Forres (River Findhorn and Pilmuir) scheme completes the flood protection for the town of Forres which has suffered regular inundation from the River Findhorn and Mosset Burn.
Royal HaskoningDHV, working with main contractors Morrison Construction and client Moray Council, brought the scheme in nearly £8 million under budget and on schedule.
The scheme is one of five such projects being delivered in Moray, and at £180 million comprises the largest program of flood alleviation works in Scotland. The Scottish Government met 80% of the cost, and the remainder was funded by Moray Council. Prior to this scheme, a £21 million project on the Burn of Mosset opened in 2009, and two others in Lhanbryde and Rothes have been completed.

The final and largest element of the program is a project in Elgin which is expected to be completed by August 2015, at a projected cost of £86 million.
