After 2 years of construction works, the extension of the “Quai de Flamands” was finally completed last month. The Port of Cherbourg now boasts a 680 m linear wharf, accessible to vessels up to 14 m draught.

This extension was accomplished within the framework of the renewable marine energies project and is also designed to handle heavy and industrial cargo.

“ We didn’t have to wait long before our first ship inaugurated the largest wharf in France, with a bearing capacity of 15t/m2. The Eendracht from Savona (Italy) berthed at the wharf and used its deck cranes to unload two heating units, each weighing 150 tonnes, which will be used in units 1 and 2 of the power station in Flamanville ,” the company said in a press release.

For this operation Cherbourg Maritime took charge of consigning the ship, whilst Cherbourg Manutention was responsible for the transshipment of the cargo onto two multi-axled trailers.
