The City of Savannah is asking local rising junior and senior high school students with an interest in engineering to apply for a spot in the 2015 Savannah Engineering Academy, a weeklong program held in June.

The five-day summer program will be held at Armstrong State University June 8-12. Academy students will explore a variety of engineering disciplines through hands-on activities such as building LED flashlights and a water filter, field trips such as a riverboat tour of the Savannah River to learn about harbor deepening, river dredging, local port activity etc.

Students will have an opportunity to work with professional engineers from major engineering disciplines including civil, electrical, computer, aerospace, mechanical, & manufacturing, water resources, environmental, and ocean.

The Savannah Engineering Academy started in 2004 and was designed for students considering careers in engineering. It is run by a team of volunteers comprised of local professional engineers. Major sponsors of the Academy include the City of Savannah, the Georgia Ports Authority and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District.
