Van Oord, a Dutch contracting company that specializes in dredging and land reclamation, has just published its annual report 2014.

The annual report 2014 looks back on an exceptional year, according to CEO Pieter Van Oord : “ The year was special because for the first time in our history, our turnover broke the two billion euro barrier. It was also special because we achieved a breakthrough in the construction and financing of offshore wind farms .”

“ In 2014, we took on a number of high-profile projects. These included the KNPC land reclamation project in Kuwait and our consortium project in the Suez Canal. There was also a huge leap in activity by our Offshore Wind Projects (OWP) business unit. After three years of preparation, the contract for the construction of the large Gemini offshore wind park was awarded in 2014 ,” he added.

The year 2014 was exceptional in many ways. From a financial perspective, Van Oord achieved a record turnover of EUR 2.104 billion (2013: EUR 1.641 billion).

“ It is the first time in our history that turnover has exceeded EUR 2 billion. That is special because we, as a company, were confronted with a number of major international trends in 2014. These were things over which we had no control but which we had to cope with as a company operating internationally,” Van Oord said in its report.

“Our turnover was not the only thing that broke records: our order book is particularly full, and was valued at EUR 3.222 billion at year end 2014 (2013: EUR 1.944 billion). This growth was assisted in no short measure by the large-scale Eneco Luchterduinen and Gemini wind park projects,” the company stated.
