A workshop about shorelines, erosion and alternatives to hard armoring will take place from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at the Guy Cole Convention Center, 202 N. Blake Ave. in Sequim, WA.

The workshop topics include: coastal and beach processes; how to manage beach and bluff erosion; alternatives to hard shoreline armoring; benefits of bulkhead removal or reduction; and native vegetation for slope stability and habitat.

The workshop format is a classroom-style presentation with time for questions, followed by a beach walk to see beach/bluff habitats and geologic processes.

Participants will learn from experts about ways to protect their property from erosion and alternatives to hard armoring that can help prevent erosion while maintaining a healthy and vibrant nearshore habitat to benefit people and wildlife long term.

The workshop is sponsored by the Northwest Straits Foundation and the Clallam County Marine Resources Committee, with funding from the Washington Departments of Fish and Wildlife and Natural Resources Marine and Nearshore Grant program.
