The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will host a public meeting on May 20, 2015, in Vermilion, Ohio to receive feedback on the implementation of the Ohio Coastal Management Program by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
This public meeting is part of the federal government’s periodic review of the state-led federally-funded program that seeks to improve Lake Erie and Ohio’s coastal resources.
The Ohio Coastal Management Program sets forth policies and guidelines to monitor activities that impact coastal resources and ensure resource protection while balancing economic, cultural and environmental interests.
The ODNR Office of Coastal Management administers the federally approved program, and has program responsibilities including issuing approximately $2 million annually in grants; providing Lake Erie-related education programs and mapping products; issuing authorizations including federal consistency determinations; and providing free technical assistance on topics including how to best address coastal erosion and shore structure design.
