The work is underway on a $1.4 million upgrade of Yamba’s commercial moorings under the NSW Government’s significant investment in regional coastal infrastructure.
“ The upgrade to infrastructure used by the Clarence River Fishermen’s Co-operative includes the replacement of structures that are at the end of their service life ,” Clarence Nationals MP, Chris Gulaptis said.
The concrete refueling and unloading jetty will have the steel piles and rendering system refurbished and the Yamba Gantry Wall will have 19 catwalk moorings replaced. The project is being funded under the Department of Primary Industries’ (DPI) Coastal Infrastructure Program and managed by NSW Public Works.
The work is expected to be completed by the end of July.
Mr Gulaptis also said that planning is underway to commence dredging of the navigation channels in the Clarence River, and upgrade the northern breakwater at Iluka in the coming months.
“ It is planned to dredge an estimated 85,000 cubic meters from the main navigation channel of the Clarence River and Yamba and Iluka boat harbors ,” he said.
The dredging will concentrate on removing shoaling from the main navigation channel and approach channels to the two boat harbors. The breakwater upgrade is estimated to cost in excess of $1 million and will improve structural stability and provide pedestrian access on the last section of the breakwater.
A tender for the Iluka dredging has been issued and the breakwater tender will be issued later this week.
