Trailing Suction Hopper Dredge (TSHD) ‘Brage R’ is currently conducting dredging operations in the main channel and swing basin at the Port of Devonport.
Just under 90m long and with a hopper capacity of 2150m³, the Brage R started dredging on Thursday, 21 May, and will stay on the site till mid-June this year, according to MAST.
During the works, approx. 250,000 cubic meters of material will be removed from the mentioned areas by dredge vessel Brage R.
One of the benefits of the Brage R is that her pump configuration is ideally suited for the dredging of heavier materials such as the gravel and cobbles that exist in the entrance channel. The vessel is highly maneuverable which will be crucial for the work in Devonport’s berth pockets.
In April 2015 the Federal Department of the Environment approved Tasports’ permit application to undertake the sea disposal activities related to the dredging. Tasports has contracted a marine dredging contractor Rhode Nielsen to undertake the work.
