Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has begun the court mandated dredging of Little Lagoon Pass, City of Gulf Shores.

According to ALDOT, the excavation of sand blocking the flow of water from Little Lagoon Pass into the Gulf of Mexico started yesterday, utilizing dredge piping, bulldozers and long reach track hoes.

“ Dredging operations and sand placement will impact the beaches within half a mile west of Little Lagoon Pass, ” said Mark Acreman, City of Gulf Shores Public Works Director .

Alabama Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) and City of Gulf Shores staff will continue to monitor the dredging operations which are estimated to take several months to complete.

On a related note, work continues on the new Lee Callaway bridge over Little Lagoon Pass. Construction of the bridge and surrounding roadways should be completed by the end of summer.
