Sand pumping operations started at Mooloolaba Spit today and is likely to take a month, weather permitting, according to the Sunshine Coast Council.

This work is part of Council’s winter sand renourishment program and it will ensure that the beaches are storm ready, healthy and enjoyable for summer.

The beaches will be reprofiled at the end of each day and before the weekend to ensure the best user experience for beach goers.

“ Between June and August, we’ll pump around 7000 cubic meters of sand from the entrance to the Mooloolah River onto the spit at a cost of $250,000. Work will assist with erosion protection, improve beach amenity and create safe navigational access to the Mooloolaba harbor in partnership with Queensland Transport and the Port of Brisbane Authority ,” said Division 4 Councillor Chris Thompson.

A small section of the beach will be closed where works are taking place and traffic measures will be in place throughout the work.
