The City of Cape Coral plans to begin dredging in the North Spreader Canal on Monday, June 29.
This project will continue for several months and will be completed no later than mid-November.
The City’s Public Works dredging crew will be working in the canal Monday thru Friday from 7:00am to 4:00pm, excluding holidays. The project area will extend from the 300 block of Old Burnt Store Road south to Pine Island Road.
The last time this portion of the North Spreader Canal was dredged was in 2008.
Canal access will be available throughout the project. Boaters are advised to use caution when traveling through the work area, and obey all signs, buoys and instructions while City workers are present.
With more than 400 miles of canals, the City of Cape Coral maintains an active dredging program. Dredging removes sediments and debris that accumulate in the bottom of canals, as part of the natural process of sand and silt washing into the waterway.
Dredging helps to maintain the desired depth of the canals for storm water drainage purposes, and to ensure the safe passage of boats.
