Member for Coffs Harbor, Andrew Fraser said that a community drop in session was held on Monday, 29 June to update the Coffs Harbor community on the impending upgrade of the Coffs Harbor northern breakwater.
“ NSW Department of Primary Industries, Land & Natural Resources is finalizing the design on the breakwater upgrade and will begin work at the site in early 2016, ” Mr Fraser said.
“With more than 100,000 people using the breakwater to access Muttonbird Island each year, the upgrade to the Coffs Harbor northern breakwater will increase public safety and reduce the frequency and severity of wave overtopping and potential damage to moored vessels and infrastructure.
“The work involves upgrading 750 metres of the existing wall.”
Local company FM Glenn is currently manufacturing 1,200 concrete blocks called Hanbars which will be used over a 300 meter section of the breakwater upgrade opposite the marina.
The northern breakwater upgrade will improve public access for all users including walkers, surfers and fishermen as well as boat owners.
