The first three of Clacton’s newly-created beaches are to be opened up at the weekend and for the rest of the summer.
The bays have been completed as part of phase two of a £36million coastal protection scheme along 5kms of coastline currently being carried out by VBA Joint Venture Limited.
Eight rock groynes and seven new beaches were opened in January when the first phase was completed.
The project is being financed by Tendring District Council (TDC), Essex County Council (ECC) and the Environment Agency.
The 15 rock-based fish tail groynes included in the second phase, which started early in March, are now finished and the recharging and profiling of the beaches is making good progress.
VBA have been working hard to get the first beach sections close to Clacton Pier ready for this weekend.
A decision has been taken to open the three beaches nearest to Clacton Pier and move the contractor’s site boundary along to opposite Vista Road. There will be no access to the public from that point up to Fernwood Avenue at Holland-on-Sea.
Those beaches will remain open for use for the rest of the summer.
