Hydromax Commercial Diving and Salvage Corporation, a private construction firm involved in underwater projects, has revealed its fear of losing one of Davao City’s gateway if government fails to rehabilitate the Sta. Ana Wharf, whose foundations could crumble after years of neglect.
Dr. Albert Pingoy, president and CEO of Hydromax , said that the Sta. Ana Wharf has been neglected without undergoing any maintenance for a very long time. The government, he said, has no rehabilitation program for the facility.
“ It is really in bad shape. Government must spend a little bit every year, ” Pingoy said.
Pingoy added that a new wharf must be checked and maintained after five or seven years on the average. Without maintenance, a wharf or pier could last only 45 to 60 years.
Sta. Ana Wharf has been developed and operated by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) – Davao until year 2000 when it was placed under the administration of the city government through a Memorandum of Agreement.
