The Rakiraki Town Council CEO Rakesh Chandra said that the Vaileka River dredging operations will require about $1 million, The Fiji Times informs.
“ We have done a few things to try and prevent any further erosion of the river banks but we think that a permanent solution is needed and that would be dredging of the river ,” Chandra said.
“ We need to do this because the river is located right next to the market and the market is always the first place that floods when the river bursts.”
He said that a proposal was submitted to the Ministry concerned for approval.
