The Department of the Marine has awarded €1.5 million for dredging works and the removal of a slipway in Dingle Harbor.

Dingle Harbor is situated on the South West Coast of Ireland on the northern shore of Dingle Bay. The harbor offers shelter from all weather and is the base for an active fishing fleet.

According to local media, Deputy Brendan Griffin welcomed the decision saying that the money comes on top of the €500,000 already allocated for major development works in Dingle Harbor earlier this year.

The funding was provided as part of a capital program of works announced by Minister Simon Coveney.

Dingle Harbor’s pier infrastructure comprises the main pier and the eastern quay, a total berthing capacity of c. 500m. The harbor is protected by two breakwaters and the main pier divides the harbor into two areas: the western basin, which has a dredge depth of 5.0 m; and the eastern basin which has a dredge depth of 2.6 m.
