Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian said in his weekly address that the southend beach replenishment project, undertaken by the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, is scheduled to resume on August 6.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers told the City that the dredger Liberty Island won’t be ready until this week, which likely means that the project will now conclude closer to the end of September, Ocean City Business Administrator Jim Mallon said.

During this beachfill scheme, Ocean City will receive approximately 1.6 million cubic yards of sand on approximately 2.6 miles of beach between 36th and 59th Streets.

The project is being overseen by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and is 100 % federally funded.
