The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, and the Souris River Joint Water Resources Board, or SRJB, are holding public meeting to discuss the Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Plan on August 9.
The meeting will be held at the Minot Municipal Auditorium, Room 201, 420 3rd Ave. Southwest, Minot. There will be an open house starting at 6 p.m., followed by a formal presentation and public comments from 7-9 p.m.
The Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Plan is a multiphase plan which was developed as a means to bring flood risk reduction to the Mouse River Basin in North Dakota.
The Mouse River basin has a number of federally authorized flood damage reduction projects, which include flood storage at Lake Darling Dam. The SRJB submitted a request to the Corps to alter the Minot Levee and Channel Improvements Project along with the six subdivisions between Burlington, N.D., and Minot.
Public input provided at the meeting will be used to assist the Corps in preparing the environmental documentation in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, or NEPA. Input will be used to determine the impacts of the proposed project.
