At an extraordinary meeting on Monday, August 3, 2015, Grey District Council, after an in-depth consideration of all its options, resolved to purchase a Launceston dredger from Tasmania, Australia.
“ The dredger has been fully inspected on behalf of the Council and found to be in very good condition and ideal for our purposes, ” they stated.
The dredger is now in the process of being transported to Greymouth, via Port Lyttelton. This could take up to two months.
Even though it has the capability for limited self-manoeuvrability, the Council will use the dredger as a non self-propelled vessel so it can be put into operation as soon as possible.
