The Laguna Lake Dredging and Sediment Management Project in San Luis Obispo, CA, is now one step closer after the council cleared the first hurdle for the project.
The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize the issuance of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for phase I of this dredging project.
According to The Tribune, the request for proposals, which will be issued August 24, will seek a consultant to provide three potential dredging projects of varying sizes and depths for council and community consideration, as well as an alternative excavation project.
Initial estimates show that the dredging project will cost around $5 million. The lake will be dredged annually for the next ten year, removing some 150,400 cubic yards of silt and other material from the area. This should lower the average depth of the central lake by about 1.5 feet, for a resulting average depth of about 9 feet.
The council has already approved $450,000 in its current financial plan that will be used for updated studies, project designs and engineering, permits and a finance plan.
