Per Aarsleff A/S, a Danish construction company, has entered into a contract with Frederikshavn Havn A/S for the enlargement of Port of Frederikshavn at a total value of approximately EUR 74 million.
The contract comprises phase 1 and is a part of a major enlargement project for Port of Frederikshavn.
This phase involves establishment of the new breakwaters, deepening and widening of the approach channel, turning basin and stopping area as well as some 1,000 meters of quay and 300,000 m² hinterland.
For economic and engineering reasons, the port areas in Phase 1 will be located at the outer end of the port expansion, just north of the new port entrance. This will limit the dredging of both sand and hard Yoldia clay.
Furthermore, the reclaimed area has sufficient capacity to accommodate all of the dredging quantities from the approach channel and basins. The turning circle and stopping area will be deepened to 12 meters, and the future port basin will be deepened to 11 meters.
The existing approach channel will be deepened to 12 meters and the width increased to 150 meters.
The new northern breakwater will be a rubble mound established parallel to the NATURA 2000 area northeast of the Port. The future port area will thus be established some 1,000 meters east of the existing northern breakwater and at a water depth of about 7 meters.
A 40-meter wide embankment will be established, with a 10-meter wide access road to the future port area. A railway track may be established on the embankment, if necessary.
