The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District, will host a public scoping meeting at Woodland Community Center today to discuss the Lower Cache Creek flood risk management study.
This study follows previous efforts in the region to implement flood risk reduction measures along Lower Cache Creek.
A tentatively selected plan was identified and released in 2003, but the study was halted because the plan lacked public support. The latest study is progressing with knowledge of flooding issues, increased awareness of public interest, and an interest in proposing alternatives that will reduce the risk of flood damages to property, infrastructure and public safety.
This meeting will present an outline of the study’s purpose, a tentative schedule and preliminary consideration of conceptual alternatives. Corps and partner staff will be on hand to discuss the study, answer questions about the state and federal environmental review processes, and accept public comments in an open house format meeting.
The Corps is partnering on the study with California’s Central Valley Flood Protection Board and the City of Woodland, California, and intends to prepare an integrated environmental document to analyze the impacts of any proposed flood risk reduction measures and alternatives. The draft report is scheduled to be released in spring 2016 for public review and comment.
