Expressions of interest have been called for works associated with the expansion of Exmouth Boat Harbor.
Department of Transport (DoT) Coastal Infrastructure General Manager Steve Jenkins said that the majority of the detailed design work for the $18.275 million upgrade had recently been completed.
Funded by the State Government through Royalties for Regions, the upgrade includes an extension to the service wharf, construction of a heavy lift facility and associated landside wharf infrastructure.
“ Shortlisted contractors who express an interest in the project will be asked to submit detailed tenders before a contract is awarded early next year ,” Mr Jenkins said.
“Additionally, a contract for the associated fuel farm relocation and utility services reconfiguration is expected to be awarded by the end of this year and the work completed by mid-2016 .”
DoT, as the harbor and project manager, has worked closely with the Gascoyne Development Commission, Shire of Exmouth, stakeholders and users to progress the detailed design for the expansion. Consultation will continue as the project moves from the planning to implementation stage.
Mr Jenkins said that a recent delay in the scheduled maintenance dredging at the harbor would not impact on the progress of the upgrade project.
“ The work has been rescheduled to commence in February next year and will remove siltation outside the harbor entrance and also clear build-up from the berth pockets for the proposed trawler pens and the service wharf extension, ” Mr Jenkins said.
“ Testing has confirmed the dredged material can be safely deposited on Town Beach. However, the naturally discolored material will take several weeks to bleach in the sun before it is unnoticeable, as in previous campaigns.”
