Rheudasil Park Pond is now just few steps closer to receive its long-awaited makeover after the Flower Mound City Council approved funding for the bank stabilization and dredging project.
The decision to proceed with this dredging and bank stabilization project was reached at the Council’s September 8th meeting.
In addition, the Council agreed to add dredging and stabilization of the two ponds at Wilkerson Park, located just north of Rheudasil Park, to the scope of the project.
Over time, sediment from litter, runoff, bacteria, and other factors begins to settle on the bottom of any pond. As this sediment continues to build, the aquatic health of the pond can became threatened, thus mechanical dredging is needed to restore the pond’s natural bottom.
Going hand-in-hand with dredging, bank stabilization is performed to turn steep slopes into gradual inclines leading up to the water’s edge, increasing accessibility to residents looking to fish or simply relax, while also minimizing erosion, which only contributes to the sediment buildup of a given pond.
According to the local officials, the design phase of this project should be presented to Council before the end of the year.
