Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. announced a $28 million federal grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
The grant will be used for the removal of sand and debris impacting navigable waterways as a result of Sandy, including dredging of the Shark River.
FEMA agreed to provide $28 million to fund $31.1 million in dredging of NJ waterways. The balance of 10 percent will be provided by the State of New Jersey.
“ The state faced so many unanticipated costs after Sandy, and I am pleased that FEMA is continuing to help with our ongoing repair effort s,” said Congressman Pallone . According to Pallone, getting New Jersey’s waterways back to pre-Sandy conditions remains a top priority.
Approximately one-third of the cost to dredge the state-maintained channel in Shark River will be funded with federal dollars. In total, FEMA will reimburse the State of New Jersey $28 million for the Sandy-related dredging in dozens of channels throughout the State.
