Maintenance dredging of portions of the Federal navigation channel in Duxbury Harbor in Duxbury, Mass., will be completed under the terms of a $4.9 million contract recently awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.
Work will be accomplished by Cashman/Burnham (C/B) Joint Venture of Quincy, Mass.
Dredging is scheduled to start this month and take about 3 months to complete. The contract was awarded on Sept. 9, 2015.
“ Work consists of maintenance dredging of approximately 200,000 cubic yards of predominantly silt-clay by mechanical dredge ,” said Bill Kavanaugh , Project Manager for the Corps of Engineers, New England District, Programs and Project Management Division in Concord, Mass.
A closed bucket will be used while dredging in the silty material to minimize turbidity adjacent to the dredge.
The dredged sediment will be transported to, and placed at, the Cape Cod Bay Disposal Site located approximately 20 nautical miles from Duxbury Harbor.
The environmental work window when dredging can be performed is September 1 to December 31, 2015.
