Natural Resources Minister Carl Sargeant officially opened the West Rhyl Coastal Defense Scheme yesterday.
The total cost of the coastal works is just over £15 million, with over £10 million coming from Welsh Government, £4.7 million from European Regional Development Fund and £520,000 from Denbighshire County Council.
“ This is an important scheme in coastal risk management terms which will reduce the risk of flooding from the sea to over 2,700 properties whilst helping to boost the local economy and attract visitors to the town ,” the Minister said.
“These improvements will help build up Rhyl’s resilience to coastal flooding and climate change for years to come. Such work is crucial to residents but also in preventing major economic losses to local businesses, tourism and road and rail links in the area.”
The final phase of the work included a new coastal revetment and wave walls protecting both households and businesses in the town.
