The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District, Reservoir Control Center is operating local dams around the clock for flood risk reduction and the Emergency Operations Center is responding to a request for flood fight assistance in Snohomish County.
The Snohomish flood team deployed to assist the French Slough Diking District to shore up the vulnerable back slope of a levee along the Snohomish River near the town of Snohomish.
The Corps also issued 50,000 sandbags to Snohomish County.
The Corps operates dams in the White/Puyallup, Green/Duwamish, Skagit and Wynoochee basins for flood risk reduction. The Corps is operating Howard Hanson, Mud Mountain, Wynoochee, Upper Baker and Ross dams for flood control, holding down outflows to reduce the risk of downstream flooding.
Public Law 84-99 enables the Corps to assist state and local authorities in flood fight activities and cost share in the repair of flood protection structures. The purpose is to prevent loss of life and minimize property damage associated with severe weather.
