A Galliford Try project has won the Civil/Infrastructure Project of the Year category of the Builder & Engineer magazine awards.
The scheme at Colwyn Bay in north Wales primarily involved the dredging and pumping of 220,000 cubic meters of sand from the bed of the Irish Sea onto the town’s beach to raise its level by three meters.
Other elements included construction of a new promenade with stepped revetment, extensions of existing outfalls for surface water and public realm works. The client was Conwy County Borough Council and the contract value was £6.8m.
Tom de la Motte, Managing Director of Galliford Try’s Infrastructure division , said: “ This award underlines the value we can add to regeneration schemes through our Environmental business unit. The project has played a significant part in the client’s long-term regeneration strategy for Colwyn Bay by both strengthening coastal protection and enhancing the amenity value of the beach.”
The award was presented to Bob Gibbon, Managing Director of Galliford Try’s Environmental business unit, at the awards ceremony held at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club, in Manchester on 19 November.
