Contracts Awarded for IDB Phase 2 and New Jetty

The Maldivian Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has awarded contracts for the construction of ten harbors – IDB phase 2 – and the construction of N.Fohdhoo jetty.

The contract signing ceremony was held on 26th November 2015 at STELCO in Male.

Under the IDB loan and the government budget, a total of $21.5 million will be spent on this large-scale project. MTCC will undertake the construction of harbors in HDh.Nolhivaranfaru, HDh.Nolhivaram, N.Maafaru, N.Maalhendhoo, N.Velidhoo, R.Innamaadhoo and Gn.Fuvahmulah.

The IDB-Phase 2 for the construction of ten harbors, which is allocated to 5 lots, was awarded to two contractors. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) won the Lot 1, 2 and 5, consisting of seven island harbors and Senok Trade Combine (Pvt) Ltd from Sri Lanka was awarded Lots 3 and 4 for the construction of three island harbors.

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr.Mohamed Muizzu, signed the contract on behalf of the government and Technical Director of Senok Trade Combine (Pvt) Ltd Mr. G.A.M. Sumanasekera signed the contract on behalf of Senok Trade Combine (Pvt) Ltd.

The deadline for the construction of six islands in Lot 1 and Lot 2 is 550 days, and completion date for lot 5 will be 365 days.

Under the contract, a 200 feet long N.Fohdhoo jetty will be constructed within 260 days.
