Congressman Tom Rice yesterday announced that the funding has been secured for the Myrtle Beach Shore Protection Project.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers provided $16 million to replace sand, which was eroded as a result of flooding from Hurricane Joaquin.
“ The Myrtle Beach Shore Protection Project was not scheduled to receive the next round of renourishment until 2018 ,” said Congressman Rice .
“ However, as a result of the storms in October, the beach suffered significant erosion and is in need of renourishment. We worked with the Corps to expedite the assessment of the damages and required reviews to ensure we met the Corps’ deadline, ” added Rice.
“ While these funds will not replace all eroded sand, this funding shows a commitment to the project, and we expect and will continue to fight for additional investment in the future,” concluded Rice.
Congressman Rice thanked his colleagues in the House Appropriations Committee for ensuring the Corps received resources in the Appropriations Act to fund this project.
